Vitamins C and E May Lower the Risk of Parkinson’s

A long-term study conducted by researchers in Sweden have found that a diet rich in natural antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E, may lower a person’s risk of developing Parkinson’s disease.

Commonly found in fruits, such as oranges, vitamin C is an essential nutrient that is necessary for the healthy function of the human body. A regular intake of vitamin C is important since it is water soluble and only stored in the body in small amounts. Vitamin C is needed to support healthy bones, teeth and gums and also helps to protect cells from oxidative damage cause by harmful free radicals.

The study included over 40,000 men and women, ranging from ages 18-94, and analysed data spanning for nearly 18 years. Over the course of the study, it was found that people with the highest levels of vitamins C and E were 32% less likely to develop the long-term degenerative disorder than those with the lowest levels.
